On Saturday, July 23 Black Bear Healing Home will be hosting the next free session of Sign and Swing! from 6pm-7pm at The Yellow Park in Carleton Place (intersection of Bridge Street and Thomas Street).
ASL Circle Time will begin at 6:15pm. We’ll start by reading Milk and Cookies, a story about a young bear who visits his grandparents, sees dragons in the night, and eats milk and cookies.
We’ll sign Old MacDonald Had a Farm and learn some farm animal signs. Then we’ll practice signing our numbers from 1 to 20. After that there will be time for questions and discussion on the topic of ASL and signing at home. And of course the swings, play structure, and large open space will be available for free play before and after the workshop (and during, for those who prefer swinging to signing).
Weather permitting… it’s just too hard to read a book in the rain! If you’re wondering whether or not the group will be running, you can call or text Lisa at 613-558-3199. Cancellations will also be posted on Black Bear Healing Home’s blog.
All ages, all ASL levels, all welcome. Hope to see you there!
Today’s session of Sign and Swing! is postponed due to weather. There’s a 90% probability of rain and a risk of thunderstorms. Let’s hope the weather is better next Saturday! We’ll read Ten Little Caterpillars, sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, and learn some ASL words of the week on July 16.
Have you heard about Sign and Swing!? The first free session is this Saturday July 9 from 6pm-7pm in Carleton Place. Here’s a link with all of the info you need to know: Announcing the Launch of Sign and Swing!
For our first ASL circle time we’ll be reading the gorgeous children’s book Ten Little Caterpillars, written by Bill Martin Jr. and illustrated by Lois Ehlert. Look at the pictures, watch Lisa sign the story, and experience an immersive ASL environment. All ages and all welcome!
We’ll also sign the first verse of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star together and practice a few ASL words of the week. Then we will have an open discussion time for those who want to start signing at home. Share your experience and learn from others. Bring your questions and your advice, and any park toys you might want to share for the evening.
Hope to see you on Saturday! If you have any concerns you can reach Lisa at Lisa@BlackBearHealingHome.com or 613-558-3199 (text and phone).
